Biography

Prof. Dr. S. Suresh Kumar, is a highly distinguished academician and researcher, with a proven track record of excellence in all aspects of his work. He has set his prime focus for Saveetha Institute of Medical and Technical Sciences (SIMATS) and has a vision to make SIMATS - India’s pioneering university in the field academics and research, and to be a ‘beacon’ to the national and international research initiatives. He also aims to promote innovation in socially relevant research and create an environment that fosters research excellence. The primary objective of his mission is to encourage faculty members to explore new frontiers of knowledge and collaborate with research leaders worldwide. Additionally, he seeks to optimize resource utilization to promote a culture of research excellence across the university. His impressive research skills have led to the successful acquisition of over 40 research grants and funding, both nationally and internationally. He has achieved a remarkable feat by breaking the record for filing the maximum number of patents in a single day and week, as recognized by the prestigious India Book of Records and Asia Book of Records. Furthermore, his exceptional leadership skills have been evident in his ability to oversee and manage various administrative matters, ensuring that the institution operates at optimal levels of efficiency. Prior to SIMATS he served as a Pro Vice Chancellor for Research at Bharath Institute of Higher Education and Research. With over a decade of experience as a Professor at the esteemed University Putra Malaysia, he has demonstrated exceptional teaching abilities and a passion for academic excellence. He holds a Doctoral degree in Microbiology from the prestigious University of Delhi. His overseas research exposure for the postdoctoral program were at prestigious institutions, including National Central University and National Taiwan University, Taiwan, where he has enhanced his expertise in the fields of yeast genetics, biomaterials and stem cells. To his credentials, he has published over 250+ research articles in high impact peer-reviewed international journals like Progress in Materials Science, Progress in Polymer Science, Trends in Biotechnology, Biomaterials etc. His research has made significant and robust contributions to the scientific community, greatly enhancing the understanding of complex areas of study. Presently, his team is working diligently with a clear futuristic vision to develop stem-cell-based therapy for various human diseases. Through his innovative approach, he strives to contribute to the advancement of medical science and the betterment of human health.
